Selective Dorsal Rhyzotomy (SDR)
Three families have approached us for contributions towards the high cost of this Operation performed by specialists in the United States. The aim is to enable children who toe walk to walk more naturally and without aids. For the 1st child, in 2010, the cost was £50k,. For the 2nd, in 2012, it had risen to £70k. For the 3rd in 2014, it had risen to £90k. The families have put in enormous effort into raising these amounts which cover the operation, parents costs of being there and intensive therapy immediately after the operation and continuing once back in the UK plus a return follow up to US.
We had the pleasure of seeing how well one little girl had done when she came to an AGM and another made and presented her thank you card at one of our meetings. She too was delighted and so were we. We hope the latest little girl will fare as well.
