The Rainbow Centre Fees

October 11, 2015 - Comments Off on The Rainbow Centre Fees

Having seen how keen parents were to send their children to this Centre we visited an Open Day and saw for ourselves the benefits of Conductive Education which is unique in its approach to neurological conditions such as cerebral palsy.  We therefore agreed again this year to help towards the costs of a summer term for a little girl whose parents had applied to us for funding. “Parents tell us that once their children have attended the Rainbow Centre their improvements have been so marked that they have pulled out all the stops […]

Access & Travel costs to perform in “Under The Vaulted Sky”

October 11, 2015 - Comments Off on Access & Travel costs to perform in “Under The Vaulted Sky”

This young man, well known to us as our first webmaster, was fundraising to meet travel costs to participate in a Dance Project at Milton Keynes.   With his level of disability his costs were high and we were happy to contribute towards his fundraising.  He succeeded in raising the remainder of money needed and participated in the Project.  For him it was another step towards his aim to be involved in music and dance as a producer using his skills gained with his degree in Broadcasting and as a creative producer and performer. . “We welcomed the […]

Repair to Power Chair Model PW1800

October 11, 2015 - Comments Off on Repair to Power Chair Model PW1800

On her return from her summer holiday the young woman we’d helped had  problems with her wheelchair:  it needed a repair to a footrest bracket and kerb climbers had to be fitted to prevent recurrence of the problem encountered trying to get about in Bournemouth.   She can now tackle those slightly higher pavements when getting about at home. “Repairs were carried out by Inspire Mobility who were familiar with her chair.   We suggested and she has now agreed to register with the NHS Wheelchair Service for her future needs:  they can maintain and repair it for her.”

Firefly GoTo Seat

October 11, 2015 - Comments Off on Firefly GoTo Seat

Her Paediatric OT referred this little girl to us.   She needed a portable seat that offered postural  support.  She would get a lot of good use out of this as she could go out with parents shopping, visiting friends and family or eating out.  We have seen how she has benefited from the pictures sent to us by her parents who agreed we could use the photo in our Annual Report of her sitting  comfortably in a shopping trolley. “The Firefly GoTo Seat is for children who need extra postural support.  The parents  were keen that she experienced life like […]

Summer Holiday in Bournemouth

October 11, 2015 - Comments Off on Summer Holiday in Bournemouth

Holidays for some severely disabled adults become very expensive when two assistants are necessary.   One young woman who lives alone albeit in sheltered housing is given a huge boost by her annual holiday.  We have seen the benefit she has derived from this much needed break. “Options Supported Holidays provide this seaside break in a single Room with Extra Care which boosts the costs but enables the person to enjoy the facilities and local outings.”

Post SDR Surgery Physiotherapy

October 11, 2015 - Comments Off on Post SDR Surgery Physiotherapy

Daily intensive physiotherapy is needed for these young children who have had SDR surgery in the USA.  NHS Physiotherapy can only be provided once a fortnight and parents undertake to fill the gap themselves and with private physio once or twice a week which is very costly.   We therefore assist towards this cost. “The aim of SDR is to enable children who toe walk to walk more naturally and without aids.  The families have put in enormous effort into raising large sums of money to  cover the operation, parents costs of accompanying their child, intensive therapy immediately after and continuing […]

Cream Tea & AGM – 12 September 2015

October 12, 2014 - Comments Off on Cream Tea & AGM – 12 September 2015

“The St Barnabas Church Hall was ideal for this year’s AGM.   Although we would have liked to have seen more General Members, it was nevertheless an enjoyable day.  Our Cream Tea was as popular as ever thanks to our gallant cake making volunteer Helen Stevens – her scones, cupcakes and chocolate brownies were enjoyed by us all. The discussion held on our revamped website was fruitful and we hope will mean we have a much improved website when we complete the work of transferring these ideas to our web. A vote of thanks was given to Peter Dudley for the […]

Paradise X3 Tricycle

October 12, 2014 - Comments Off on Paradise X3 Tricycle

This nine year old boy with cerebral palsy also needed a therapy trike.   Together with the Cauldwell Children’s Trust  a suitable trike was bought.   His mother rang to say how excited he was when it eventually arrived and that he is not only planning to use it for play but he wants to use it to get to school, giving him a step up to independence.
