Horseriding Therapy & Exhibiting at Olympia.

June 5, 2017 - Comments Off on Horseriding Therapy & Exhibiting at Olympia.

This young woman has reached the transitional age when, no longer a child, is left in a wilderness she feels. Discussing options the valuable Therapy of horse riding has met her approval and help with the cost has been met by us. With artistic talents being her salvation. we were delighted to help towards the cost of a stand to display her artwork that she had submitted and had been accepted for a show at Olympia in September. Congratulations to her and hopefully something that might lead to her future in the art and crafts market

Washing Machine

December 4, 2016 - Comments Off on Washing Machine

This is always an important item in any home and more so when there is a child with a disability.     So it was, having enquired about help for an aid which the school had after all provided, we learned of the problem the mother was having with her well worn washing machine. With the necessary information about model, cost, etc. on our application form we were able to meet the cost and hopefully she now has a clean son and she a happy mother.

Respite Break

November 24, 2016 - Comments Off on Respite Break

We have become increasingly aware of problems encountered by adults trying to find carers. With their PiP budgets in principle they merely have to find those carers willing to meet their needs: not an easy task. They are thin on the ground and not always willing, leaving individuals unable to care for themselves. It is admirable that Local Authorities now provide adapted homes for disabled adults of all ages. However, for this to succeed, good care needs to be provided to enable people to be safe in their own homes. Unfortunately with cuts W&D Scope has been involved in helping […]

Postoperative Physiotherapy

November 24, 2016 - Comments Off on Postoperative Physiotherapy

Many children with cerebral palsy do what is called “toe walking” which affects their stability when walking and an operation called Selective Dorsal Rhizotomy (SDR) has been developed to overcome this problem.  After an  SDR Operation, extensive physiotherapy is essential. Though parents are taught how to provide physio at home they find it needs to be supplemented by private physiotherapy which is very expensive. As one mother said “after the […]

AGM Report-back 2016

September 22, 2016 - Comments Off on AGM Report-back 2016

Race Runners – a future paralympic sport? We were delighted that thanks to Physiotherapist Clair Padgham and her talk about her hopes and plans for Race Runners at our AGM, we attracted more parents and families this year. After the first bout of tea and cakes her video showed just how disabled children were enjoying being able to chase around on these peddle-less trikes. Meeting in various venues children can build up their stamina, experience movement and enjoy the thrill of competing with each other. Thanks to Friends of Osborne School and the generosity of the University of Winchester the group […]

Firefly GoTo Seat & Floorsitter

August 1, 2016 - Comments Off on Firefly GoTo Seat & Floorsitter

As this little girl had outgrown her previous GoTo Seat which had proved so helpful for her, we approved a donation to purchase a bigger one.  These seats are fully portable giving good postural support.   As you can see from the photo, she can be seated safely on the floor and be near her toys.  It’s also ideal for supporting her on a dining chair so that she can sit at the table with family and friends or in a shopping trolley making it more comfortable  for her. .

Knowing how beneficial the Conductive Education applied by this Centre has proved for her, and hearing from her Occupational Therapist that she will still benefit – we were only too happy to agree.
