AGMs & Cream Teas

By offering Cream Teas with our AGM we had seen an increase in attendance and popularity, attracting more parents and interested people than the usual AGM.  We had for years met in differing venues :- Greenacres School, Lanterns and Littleton Memorial Hall and latest at St Barnabas Church.

In 2013 and 2014 we met at the fully accessible home of Nicki Wade, a long standing member of our Executive Committee, where we welcomed parents who had been helped by us but St Barnabas Church at Weeke Winchester enables more to attend.

Each year speakers had been invited to talk on various topics such as : –

  • Hampshire Riding Therapy
  • Canine Partners
  • The Rainbow Centre for Conductive Education (for children and adults
    with Neurological conditions).
  • Face to Face – Befrienders Scheme run by KIDS

and in 2016 a talk about “Race Runners” – a future paralympic sport?

We were delighted that thanks to Physiotherapist Clair Padgham and her talk about her hopes and plans for Race Runners, we attracted more parents and families.

After the first bout of tea and cakes her video showed just how disabled children were enjoying being able to chase around on these peddle-less trikes. Meeting in various venues children can build up their stamina, experience movement and enjoy the thrill of competing with each other.

Thanks to Friends of Osborne School and the generosity of the University of Winchester the group has had 2 successful taster days. It is the aim to buy 6 trikes so that the group can meet regularly: a wish W&D Scope supports. Hot off the press is that they have bought their first bike.

We were therefore very pleased that Clair agreed to join our Executive Committee together with other newcomers, Jan Spring and Charlene Cooper, while Mary Townend has replaced our Hon.Treasurer Charlie Smallman. Our Chairman Gill Young and all the other Executives were returned.

Everyone enjoyed the excellent cakes and scones with plenty of tea/coffee in a friendly  atmosphere.
