July 31, 2017 - Comments Off on Celebration of 60th birthday-trip to London

Someone we have known for many years wanted to organise a trip to London with his daugher to celebrate his 60th birthday. As B&B at hotels in the West End would be out of the question, cost wise, we were able to put our heads together and make a few suggestions.    He did a lot of searching on his computer which he shared with us. The end result is, he will be off  by train to connect with Dial-a-Ride and with the aid of a scooter he hopes to achieve his dream. Showing such tenacity we were happy to […]

Respite Break

November 24, 2016 - Comments Off on Respite Break

We have become increasingly aware of problems encountered by adults trying to find carers. With their PiP budgets in principle they merely have to find those carers willing to meet their needs: not an easy task. They are thin on the ground and not always willing, leaving individuals unable to care for themselves. It is admirable that Local Authorities now provide adapted homes for disabled adults of all ages. However, for this to succeed, good care needs to be provided to enable people to be safe in their own homes. Unfortunately with cuts W&D Scope has been involved in helping […]

Postoperative Physiotherapy

November 24, 2016 - Comments Off on Postoperative Physiotherapy

Many children with cerebral palsy do what is called “toe walking” which affects their stability when walking and an operation called Selective Dorsal Rhizotomy (SDR) has been developed to overcome this problem.  After an  SDR Operation, extensive physiotherapy is essential. Parents often raise large sums of money to pay for SDR.   Having then to face the extra costs of private physio to supplement the NHS limited service is hard. Though parents are taught how to provide physio at home they find it needs to be supplemented by private physiotherapy which is very expensive. As one mother said “after the […]

Firefly GoTo Seat & Floorsitter

As this little girl had outgrown her previous GoTo Seat which had proved so helpful for her, we approved a donation to purchase a bigger one.  These seats are fully portable giving good postural support.   As you can see from the photo, she can be seated safely on the floor and be near her toys.  It’s also ideal for supporting her on a dining chair so that she can sit at the table with family and friends or in a shopping trolley making it more comfortable  for her. .

Quest88 Colt Trike

May 31, 2016 - Comments Off on Quest88 Colt Trike

It is always a pleasure to hear from parents unknown to us. That’s the aim of our website of course. This young lad’s parents applied for help towards buying a Quest88 Colt special needs trike for their young son. Knowing how beneficial these are for both physical and psychological therapy, and with the support of his Occupational Therapist, we were happy to contribute. We look forward to seeing him – either in a photo or in person. Our AGMs are always an opportunity to get together with us and other parents and this year we aim to have a video […]
